Alaska Just Transition Collective’s first Community Convening

I’ll be Graphic Recording for the Alaska Just Transition Collective’s first Community Convening in Seward. Registration required, but spaces are available as of October 22, 2025. Information below.

Dear Seward community members,

It is our honor to invite you to join us at the Alaska Just Transition Collective’s first Community Convening in Seward, AK on October 25-26 in partnership with the Qutekcak Tribe and the Seward Prevention Coalition.

The goal of the Community Convening is to gather local organizations, community members, and stakeholders working towards a Just Transition and provide a space for participants to share knowledge, collaborate, and develop actionable solutions together.

A Just Transition calls for an equitable and inclusive transition from an extractive economy to a regenerative economy. We will be focusing on issues such as clean energy, food sovereignty, democratic representation, sustainable economic development, and community wellness.

This is a free event with breakfast and lunch provided as well as childcare, if needed.

We are inviting small business owners, community organizers, Tribal leaders, artists, union members, faith leaders, elected officials, educators, and workers from key sectors who want to work collaboratively towards a more sustainable, inclusive, and resilient Seward.

If you are interested in joining us, please register here. We have a limited number of spaces available and encourage you to register early to secure your place.

We look forward to coming together to support the community you want for future generations of Seward.

Bid on a comics class for TEN kids and adults to support APU Nordic Ski Center

The APU Nordic Ski Center is holding a fundraising auction on May 8th. Join their 2025 Spring Celebration and Fundraiser at the Atwood Building on the APU Campus from 5:30 to 8:00 p.m.

“Join us for APU Nordic Ski Center’s Spring Celebration & Fundraiser! We hope to see many of our friends and family for a fun evening with our Elite Team & Coaches. The evening’s festivities will include auction, food, drink, live music by the Ari & Hermanson Brother Band, and more fun and games for kids too.”

Here’s what you could bid on and win! It’s a $300 value:

“An hour and a half comics session with local cartoonist Lee Post. Lee's classes around Alaska have been standing room only and everyone leaves with smiles, new skills, and a pile of wacky drawings. You supply the venue and Lee will bring the supplies and activities for up to 10 youth or adults to have a fun, fast-paced art class that does not require any prior art experience. We will explore some of the basics of cartooning, then experiment with telling stories. Class may be able to be customized to fit interests or a theme. See http://PostMarks.graphics for more information about his classes. (Youth under 6 will need adult participation to help with the activities.) After the close of the auction, you'll work with Lee Post to set a date, time and venue for your class.”

All Ages: Memoirs and Journeys

We all have stories to tell.  Big stories of the events that define us.  Small stories about what we had for breakfast and little conversations.   Imaginary stories of lives we could live.  Join cartoonist Lee Post to Folks explore the building blocks of storytelling, learn some of the history behind this form, play with some story prompts, then draft and create a story of their own real or imagined journey on a giant sheet of paper.  Fun for youth, adults and families of all ages.   (Youth in second grade and below will have fun, but will need an adult or teen join them to help.)

Come join me at the Alaska Museum’s SEED Lab as part of the 2024 24-hour Zine Fest!
